Mice and rats often stay hidden, so the first clue may be a sound, mark, or damaged package rather than a live sighting. Damp seasons and cooler weather can increase pressure around garages, crawlspaces, sheds, and homes with nearby vegetation or food sources.
Sounds after dark
Scratching, light running, or gnawing in walls, ceilings, attics, or beneath floors can indicate activity. Note the time and location instead of opening unfamiliar spaces or disturbing insulation.
Droppings and rub marks
Droppings may appear along walls, in cabinets, beside stored food, or near garage edges. Dark, greasy marks along a repeated travel route can develop where rodents brush against surfaces. Avoid sweeping or vacuuming droppings dry; follow appropriate cleanup guidance.
Gnawing and disturbed materials
Look for damage to food packaging, cardboard, plastic bins, weather stripping, and soft building materials. Shredded paper or insulation may be used for nesting. Chewed wiring is a separate safety concern that may require an electrician.
Exterior conditions that support activity
Bird seed, pet food, fallen fruit, unsecured trash, dense vegetation, standing clutter, and gaps around garage doors or utility lines can all contribute. Removing available food and reducing hiding places supports any monitoring or trapping plan.
What our current rodent service includes
Affordable Pest Pros offers specialty rodent monitoring with trapping and exterior tamper-resistant bait station options. Full exclusion construction, structural sealing, insulation removal, attic restoration, and crawlspace remediation are not included.
